The Safeguarding & Care Planning Service (East & West) work with children & families following transfer from the Referral & Assessment Service, which occurs if a child/young person is made subject to a Child Protection Plan, care proceedings have been initiated, Children who are assessed as Children in Need at Tier 2.5 or Tier 3 on the Bromley Safeguarding Continuum of Need and Intervention are also worked within the service to prevent and support interventions to children & their families.

The aim is to minimise the need for high threshold interventions (child protection) and ensure children & young people are effectively safeguarded and their needs are met, once this has been achieved they can be ‘stepped down’ to CAF and Early Intervention services identified along with a Lead Professional.

The teams work with and support parents to prevent their children becoming accommodated. They work closely with partner agencies to safeguard those children who are in need of protection and to implement the child protection plan to effect the necessary changes. Those children/young people who continue to be at risk will be subject to a legal planning meeting to decide whether the threshold has been met to initiate legal proceedings (care proceedings) within the Public Law Outline.

Social workers will be expected to visit their children and families face to face, however, social workers are not required to come to the office and are able to currently work from home.
